What is Roman

Roman shows what your dishes cost at your competitors and when they change their prices. You pick your restaurant and the places around it; every day Roman reads their menus — web pages, PDFs and photos — matches the items on their menus to your dishes and shows how the prices compare.

Today Roman works in Kraków, in złoty, in Polish and English. It is in beta.

Who it's for

Restaurant owners and managers who want to set prices based on what the market does — without going through a dozen websites and copying prices into a spreadsheet.

What you get

  • Prices of "the same dish" at several restaurants, even though each names it differently: "Tatar wołowy", "Befsztyk tatarski" and "Tatar z polędwicy wołowej" are one dish to Roman.
  • The market median and where your price stands: cheaper, more expensive, or in the middle.
  • Whole groups compared in baskets: your desserts, pizzas or wines against all the desserts, pizzas and wines on the market.
  • Competitors' price changes over the last 7 days.
  • Price history that grows with every new version of a menu.
  • Teamwork and several locations: invite people as Owner, Manager or View only and switch between locations (team, organization and locations).

How it works

  1. Menus. Every restaurant has one or more menu sources: a link to a page, a link to a PDF, or uploaded files. More about menu sources.
  2. Reading. Roman checks every menu once a day. When it has changed, Roman reads all its items: name, description, section, portion and price. Each reading is a new menu version.
  3. Matching. Roman assigns menu items (yours and your competitors') to your dishes. It accepts confident matches itself; uncertain ones go to your inbox, where you decide.
  4. Comparing. Matches become prices: who, how much, since when. You see them in the overview, in compare and on each dish page.

Where to start

Roman is invite-only. Once you have a link, go through getting started: you'll set a password, pick your restaurant, choose your dishes, set up baskets and pick your competitors. It takes a few minutes.
